Mihajlo Stojanović is a Chess Grandmaster from Serbia. His chess career started at an early age and he was awarded the title of Grandmaster by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2005.
Stojanović was born on March 8, 1983, in Belgrade, SFR Yugoslavia. He demonstrated a talent for chess early on, winning the championship of his country in his age category twice by the age of 14. After winning the World Open from first place in Philadelphia, he received his International Master title in 2002.
In 2005, Stojanović became a Grandmaster. In the same year, he finished in first place in the St. Petersburg Chess Championship in Russia. Other notable achievements include tying for first place in the Zadar Open in Croatia in 2010, and finishing in first place in the Paracin Open in Serbia in 2012.
Stojanović represented Serbia in team tournaments as well. He played for the national team in two Chess Olympiads and in 2013 he won team gold and individual silver medals at the European Team Chess Championship. He also represented his country on three more occasions in the same competition.
Apart from his playing career, Stojanović also serves as a coach and has trained players who have achieved international recognition, such as International Master Jovana Rapport.
