He was born on April 27, 1961, in Belgrade, Serbia and was formerly known as a Yugoslav chess player before taking on German citizenship. He is known for winning several prestigious championships.

Striković became the Champion of the Belgrade Student Chess Federation in 1983, a win followed by the 1987 Championship of Yugoslavia. He shared the first place at the Vršac International Chess Tournament with Alexander Beliavsky in 1988, ultimately winning the tournament after a play-off.

Striković has competed in the Chess Olympiad for the Yugoslav national team on two occasions. The first time was in 1988 in Thessaloniki, Greece and the second in 1990 in Manila, Philippines.

Despite his success, he is not as known for his playing nowadays, instead known as a second to Viswanathan Anand. He assisted Anand in several World Chess Championships during 2008 to 2014. Anand was runner-up in 2014 and World Chess Champion in 2008 and 2012.
