Bharath Subramaniyam is an Indian chess prodigy who became an International Master in 2019. He became the second youngest International Master in Indian chess history when he earned the title at the age of 12 years and 3 months.
Before being recognised as an International Master, Subramaniyam tested his chess skills at various national and international competitions, and continually showcased his exceptional aptitude for the game. His achievements at the Singapore Nationals, World Cadets Chess Championships, and the Aeroflot Open, among others, cemented his reputation as a talented chess player.
He made his mark internationally by winning the Gold Medal in the World Cadets Chess Championship held in Brazil in 2017, becoming the World Under-8 Chess Champion. Bharath Subramaniyam contributed to India finishing fourth in the Under-16 Chess Olympiad held in Konya, Turkey in 2018, playing a crucial role in the team's collective triumph.
Subramaniyam's chess journey initially had the expert guidance of accomplished trainers who moulded him into a skilful player. His initial training was provided by R.B. Ramesh and he was then trained and guided by Magesh Chandran Panchanathan. His ambition is to become a World Chess Champion.
