Péter Székely was a Hungarian chess player who earned the title of International Grandmaster (GM) in 1991. Born on April 13, 1955, Székely not only performed but also authored various chess books, and notably served as the Hungarian Chess Federation's vice-president.
Székely began his career in the late 1970s, with his first big achievement being the Hungarian Chess Championship in 1978. By 1984, he represented Hungary in the Chess Olympiad held in Thessaloniki, and later on, in 1994 he fought his way to becoming the team's captain. He was also a didactic player for several world championships.
In terms of his writing career, Székely was a workhorse, having written in-depth analyses on chess along with several renowned masters. He also broadened his career through being a pundit on television broadcasts producing enjoyable yet profound content.
On February 20, 2020, Székely passed away. He left behind a legacy that touched many chess enthusiasts and professionals around the world.
