Rudolf Teschner was a German chess player, prolific author, and a prominent figure in the world of Chess. Born on 16th January 1922 and deceased on 24th March 2006, he held the title of International Master of the World Chess Federation FIDE. He was also the German Champion in chess in 1948 and a two-time winner of the Berlin Championships in the years 1947 and 1948.

Teschner's chess career began in 1938 as part of a club in Berlin-Wedding, and he became a German Champion a decade later. His career as a player, however, was overshadowed by his work as an author and editor of chess literature. He was the chief editor of the renowned chess magazine 'Deutsche Schachzeitung' from 1950 until 1998. Teschner also wrote a number of successful chess books and translated the works of others.

Notably, Teschner commented and analyzed all World Chess Championships between Botvinnik vs. Smyslov (1954) until Kasparov vs. Short (1993) for the Deutsche Schachzeitung. He received a number of honors for his work, including the Golden Federal Cross of Merit from Germany in 1985, honorary membership of the FIDE in 1986, as well as an honorary membership in the German Chess Federation. In 1995, Teschner was also awarded the title of FIDE Honorary Member.

Rudolf Teschner passed away in Berlin at the age of 84, leaving behind a significant legacy in the field of chess literature.
