Tibor Tolnai is a Hungarian chess player who was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by FIDE, the international chess federation, in 1979. He was born on October 4, 1934. He also won the championship of the Hungarian Radio's correspondence chess event in 1973.

He competed in several Hungarian Chess Championships, finishing third place in 1961 which was his best result. He was a regular participant in international tournaments, playing in numerous European cities including Reggio Emilia, Venice, and Vienna.

Tolnai also played for Hungary's national team in the Chess Olympiad. He was part of the team for eight years, from 1966-1974. One of his standout performances was when he represented Hungary in the Chess Olympiad in 1970 in Siegen and he won the bronze medal with the team.

62 years after he first attained International Master (IM) status, Tolnai is the longest serving current IM who is still living. He is also particularly notable for being the second oldest person to ever attain the title of GM. Only Yuri Averbakh, who became a GM at age 64, achieved the title at an older age. Tolnai was 63 when he was awarded the GM title.
