Vitaly Tseshkovsky was a prominent Russian chess Grandmaster, born on 25th September 1944 and died on 24th December 2011. He became an International Master in 1975 and a Grandmaster in 1976. He's best known for his impressive performance in the USSR Chess Championship, which he won twice, in 1978 and 1986.
Tseshkovsky attended the Leningrad State University of Communication Engineers, where he enrolled in 1964 and graduated in 1972. After becoming a Grandmaster, he participated in various national and international tournaments. In 1972, Tseshkovsky won the Moscow Open, and in 1975, he achieved first place in the Soviet First League.
In addition to his individual accomplishments, Tseshkovsky played for Russia in the 1977 and 1978 European Team Chess Championships and the 1978 Chess Olympiad. His team won the gold medal in all events.
Despite his successful career, Tseshkovsky's life ended suddenly when he died of a heart attack during the 64th Russian Championship in 2011. He is remembered for his unique style of chess, which was aggressive and uncompromising.
