Gennady E. Tunik (11 May 1934 – 21 April 2020) was a Soviet and Russian Chess Grandmaster and Associate Professor, who dedicated his entire professional life to chess-related activities. He studied chess at the university level and further pursued his passion by becoming a Chess Grandmaster. Tunik devoted much of his career to coaching other professional chess players. He served as a coach for Sergei Dolmatov and Sergei Rublevsky, who are two popular figures in the world of chess.
Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to many famous Russian chess clubs. He didn't play many international events, and much of his recognition comes from his contribution as a chess coach and theoretician. Tunik published several books dedicated to different aspects of chess, his analytical and methodological research in the field of developing and improving professional skills remain highly regarded among the chess community. He is best known for his analytical and methodological approach to the game of chess.
Tunik passed away on 21st April 2020, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of chess.
