Anatoly Vaisser is a French chess Grandmaster who was born on March 5, 1949, in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan. He is internationally recognized and accomplished in chess, particularly for being the four-time World Senior Chess Champion in the years 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2016.
His chess career dates back to when he was 17 years old, earning the Master title in the former USSR in 1972. His excellent performance earned him the International Master (IM) title in 1982. He shot to prominence in 1985 when he tied for the first place in a significant international tournament in Havana, Cuba.
In 1986, he migrated to France and became a Grandmaster (GM) in 1990 after launching his career as a professional chess player. Founded by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), the Grandmaster title is the highest title a chess player can attain next to the World Championship title.
Vaisser secured a personal victory in 1994 when he won the French Chess Championship. He later focused his career on senior tournaments. After his stellar performance in senior tournaments, the French Chess Federation bestowed on him the title of Trainer Emeritus. Vaisser published a book in 2007, titled "Centre-Stage and Behind the Scenes."
