Levente Vajda is a Romanian chess player who achieved the Grandmaster title in 2005. Born on 13 February 1981, he began his professional chess career at a young age and gained significant achievements throughout his career.
Vajda has represented Romania at several Chess Olympiad competitions, starting in 2006 and last competing in 2014. He contributed to team Romania's success in many of these competitions, helping them achieve an eighth place finish out of 103 teams in 2008, and a fifth place finish among 177 teams in 2014.
In 2014, Vajda achieved his best ranking yet by reaching 2653 points on the FIDE World Ranking of Chess Players. This positioned him among the top 100 chess players worldwide. Vajda credits his success to careful preparation, dedication to the game, and his ability to be both a defensive and aggressive player.
Apart from playing in global competitions, Vajda has also participated in and won numerous local and regional competitions. Among them are the 2006 Scarborough Chess Club Championship and the Romanian Championship, winning them both in 2001 and 2003.
Vajda holds significant records at the level of Zonal Tournaments of FIDE. He won the European U14 Championship ahead of Étienne Bacrot in 1995, and he also won the European U16 Championship in 1997.
He also had significant successes in team competitions. From 1997 to 2014, Vajda played in the European Club Cup for the team Politehnica Iași. The team mainly achieved successes at this level in 2004 as they finished sixth out of 58 teams in the European Club Cup.
