Wan Yunguo is a Chinese chess player who earned the title of Grandmaster (GM) from the World Chess Federation in 2013. Born on May 26, 1988, in the People's Republic of China, it was in 2008 that Wan won the Under-20 category of the Asian Youth Chess Championship, held in Tehran, Iran. In the same year, he also achieved another victory at the Aeroflot Open in Moscow, Russia, coming first in Group C.
Wan earned the International Master (IM) title in 2009, and continued to play steadily. His achievements include sharing the first place at the 2009 Dubai Open, and at the 2013 Asian Individual Chess Championship in Manila, Philippines, where he secured one of five qualifying spots for the Chess World Cup 2013.
At the Chess World Cup 2013, Wan was eliminated in the first round by GM Le Quang Liem. He played in the Chess World Cup 2015 as well, where he faced and was eliminated by Alexander Grischuk in the first round.
In domestic competition, he won the Chinese Chess Championship in 2014.
