Wei's other achievements include being the world's youngest player to break into the top 100 in January 2015, and the youngest to enter the top 50 in October 2015. He competes in multiple international chess tournaments, such as the Tata Steel Chess Tournament and Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival. He represented China in the 41st Chess Olympiad in 2014 as well as in the World Team Chess Championship in 2015, where his team won.
Wei Yi's game style is described as aggressive and is often likened to that of Bobby Fischer, Garry Kasparov, and Magnus Carlsen. His most notable game, known as the "Immortal Game," was against Lazaro Bruzon in 2015. This game is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of attacking chess.
