Xu Jun is a Chinese chess Grandmaster. He was born on 17 October 1962 in Nanchang, Jiangxi. He was awarded the International Master title in 1985 and the Grandmaster title in 1994. Xu won the Chinese Chess Championship in 1988, 1991, and 1992. Notably, he emerged victorious in the World Open held in Philadelphia in 2001 and 2002 and won the 2005 French Championship as well. As the leader of the Chinese Men's Team, he led them to win their first Olympiad silver medal in 2006.
Xu is also known for his contributions to the chess composition, particularly in the genre of helpmates. He worked as the president of the Chess Composition Committee of the Asian Chess Federation. He has developed software called Chess King and Chess King Pro, which are designed for chess learning and training.
Xu Jun currently lives in France and serves as the head coach of the French Women's National Team. He founded the first French-Chinese Chess Academy in Paris in 2006. Besides these, Xu is proficient in five languages, including English, French, Russian, and German.
