Igor Yagupov is a Russian chess grandmaster, coach, and chess author. He was awarded the International Master title in 1990 and the Grandmaster title in 1995. He achieved his best historical performance in the 1995 Governor's Cup in Samara, where he tied for 1st-3rd places with Zviad Izoria and Victor Bologan. Yagupov won the Saint Petersburg City Chess Championship in 1993 and 2001. He competed in the FIDE World Cup in 2000, but was eliminated in the first round.

As a chess educator and coach, Yagupov has written several books and articles in Russian, English, and German, and has been praised for his ability to explain complex chess concepts in a clear and understandable way. He is known for his work in teaching at the Saint Petersburg Sports and Leisure Palace and his contribution to the 'Perfect Chess' training program.

Yagupov has also been involved in chess organizing and served as Chief Arbiter in the Saint Petersburg City Chess Championship from 2006 to 2008. Despite his numerous achievements and his important role in promoting and advancing chess, there has been little coverage of Yagupov's career in the English-language media.
