Yuri Yakovich is a Russian chess Grandmaster and chess author. He was born on March 29, 1962, in Saratov, Russia. Yakovich became a Grandmaster in 1990.
Yakovich has competed in several major international chess tournaments. Some of his notable achievements include tying for first place with Alexander Beliavsky in the 1990 URS-ch Cup, coming in second in the 1997 Russian Chess Championship, and sharing first place with Sergey Volkov and Alexander Riazantsev in the 2001 Chigorin Memorial.
He participated in the FIDE World Chess Championship in 2002, but was eliminated in the second round. In the Chess World Cup 2005, Yakovich was knocked out in the first round.
As an author, Yakovich has written several books related to chess, including "Sicilian Attacks: Powerful Charges & Typical Tactics.”
