Gennadi Zaichik is a chess grandmaster who was born on March 23, 1957. He was granted the title of International Grandmaster in 1983. He represented USSR and Estonia in different international chess tournaments.
In the World Chess Championship, he steadily made his way up to the quarter finals in 1985. Zaichik also participated in several USSR Chess Championships, achieving the best result in the 58th championship where he shared second place. Before bringing his skills to Estonia in 1990, he was part of the Soviet team that won the European Team Chess Championship in 1989.
After moving to Estonia, he played in the Estonian Championships several times, clinching the first position twice - in 1994 and 2001, while in 2002 and 2003 he was the runner-up. As part of the Estonian team, he participated in the 30th Chess Olympiad and multiple European Team Chess Championships.
Zaichik was also involved in producing and selling chess software. His products include software for the training of chess players and for the improvement of their technique.
According to FIDE's 2006 report, he was regarded as semi-retired from professional chess. It also states that he contributed to chess literature by writing articles on chess theory. His last recorded games were in the European Club Cup in 2008.
