Vadim Zvjaginsev is a Russian chess Grandmaster recognized for his creative playing style. Born on August 18, 1976, in Moscow, he was awarded the Grandmaster title by FIDE, the international chess federation, in 1994. Throughout his career, Zvjaginsev has achieved various remarkable results, including winning the Russian Championship in 1997 and tying for first place at the Aeroflot Open in 2005. He also won the highly prestigious World Open Tournament in Philadelphia twice.


Zvjaginsev represented Russia in multiple Chess Olympiads and European Team Chess Championships. In individual competitions, his greatest success was in 2002 during the FIDE World Chess Championship, where he reached the quarterfinals.


In 2010, he won the Razuvaev Memorial and in 2011 secured significant results in the Russian Team Championship and European Club Cup. Zvjaginsev continues to remain an active player in the chess world and is currently ranked among the top 100 players. He has a reputation for frequently deviating from common move sequences, often choosing unusual openings. His playing style is often compared to that of former World Champion Mikhail Tal.
