Nimzovich-Larsen attack - Polish variation
1. b3 b5
1. b3 b5
The Polish Variation of the Nimzowitsch-Larsen Attack arises after 1.b3 b5. ECO code: A01.
Overview
With 1...b5, Black mirrors White's queenside pawn advance, creating a symmetrical structure where both sides fianchetto their queenside bishops. This is reminiscent of the Polish Opening with reversed colours.
Strategic Themes & Plans
Both players aim for long-diagonal control from b2 and b7 respectively. The game often develops into a strategic battle over the central squares, with both bishops exerting pressure. White has the advantage of the extra tempo and can use it to steer the game in a favourable direction through central pawn advances or kingside development.
