Owen defence
1. e4 b6
1. e4 b6
Owen's Defence arises after 1.e4 b6. ECO code: B00.
Named after the English player John Owen (1827–1901). Black prepares to fianchetto the queen's bishop to b7, pressuring e4. The defence is a reversed Nimzowitsch-Larsen Attack. After 2.d4 Bb7, Black exerts pressure on the long diagonal, but White's central pawn duo (d4, e4) provides a significant space advantage. The opening is playable but slightly passive for Black.
