"Most customers, by the time the musicians reach the second set, are to some extent inebriated. They don't care what you play anyway." -Charles Mingus
I had the opportunity see McCoy Tyner in concert. He is still amazing, playing in his seventies. He should not be missed, given the opportunity, for he is one of the legends.
I enjoyed reading "Quintet of the Year," by Geoffrey Haydon. It details a 1953 concert by Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell, Charlie Parker and Max Roach.
Some of my favorite albums are: A Night In Tunisia (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers), Spark (Terumasa Hino), Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (Miles Davis), Red Light Blue Light (Harry Connick, Jr.), Moodswing (Joshua Redman), Of Kindred Souls (Roy Hargrove), and Brown and Roach Incorporated (Clifford Brown & Max Roach).
