Dead Draw

A Dead Draw in chess refers to a position in a game where neither player can make further progress or effect a win. This tends to occur when both sides have insufficient material to checkmate, the same position has occurred three times with the same player to move, no capture or pawn move has occurred in the last fifty moves, or if an identical position would appear for the third time in the game, thereby resulting in a draw under the threefold repetition rule.
