Chess Terms : Deflection Explained
Deflection is a tactical motif in which an opposing piece is forced away from a square, line, or defensive duty that it needs to perform. The deflected piece abandons its defensive role, allowing the attacker to execute a decisive blow. Deflection is the flipside of decoy—instead of luring a piece to a bad square, the piece is driven away from a good one.
