Time out loss vs Resignation

Just wondering if there is any difference between time out loss and resignation? apparently there is according to my opponent who refuses to resign and letting the game to time out! I looked at her game history and this isnt the first time she is doing that. So I'm thinking there must be a difference?

There's no difference. She might be hoping for your rating to rise before the game times out, so she loses less on her own rating - there are people on the site who are bothered about such things. Whatever the reason I should simply refuse to play her again.

There is no difference. They are both a loss.

Perhaps your opponent is hoping for a blunder that will result in a draw.
