Agreed. For me anyway, the banded grands are too much of a good thing, but a banded octet is the sweet spot. I can totally screw up two games and still feel like I'm in the running. π

You know, I always avoided the open Octets, but you might want to try them. It's luck of the draw who you're up against, but you get a much wider variety of opponents that way, some better than you but some lower skills, too. Makes a nice mix.
It's refreshing to have a whole new group of people pounding the daylights out of me. π
Yes more banded octets please - it's just no fun playing in tournaments where I don't feel at all competitive. I can play stronger players at any time, when I play a tournament I like the challenge of playing people I should stand a chance against.

I second that... 'banded' tournaments are rather scarce (seemingly so). Either they all go very quickly or only a limited number is offered.
