How Much is the Queen Really Worth.

Only Chess

Another thread touches upon this but as usual everyone
has gone it all wrong.

Looky guys. The average chess cost £5.00.

So £5.00 divided by 32 (the number of chess pieces) = 0.15625.

So the Queen is worth approx 16p.

Where do you buy your chess sets at an average price of £5?

I had a feeling this would be a complex and controversial discussion about the validity of the head of state in the UK...but ended up reading something much more worthwhile.

You can buy the kiddies chess set from CHESS for £4.99.

The kiddies set has the 'relative' value of the pieces printed on them.

I would not trust none of you lot with the adult set.

He's worth about 75 dollars an hour but that doesn't include kissing.

completely wrong, this is the same concept and question as the other thread. Except here we're talking about monetary cost/worth instead of worth in pawns.

Why would a queen which is bigger, taller, more useful and takes up more materials to make be the same monetary value as a smaller pawn?

You'd have to measure the pieces in volume and the bill of materials, work involved to get a definitive answer

surely the piece is worth what you are prepared to pay for it...

now, in a tournament game, there's a goal... the king, which is worth money... the rest of the pieces are clearly worthless 🙂

Are you suggesting that a GM actually needs to buy pieces?!

I say, the fish and the tourney organizers should just cough up their sets for the privilege of having a GM handle them.

GM's don't do no stinkin' arithmetic, pal!

😠😀

When was the last time you played in a tournament?

Players (GM's included). have to bring their own sets, boards and clocks,
else they are not allowed in.

I remember when both me and Nimzovitch turned up without a set
at Hastings 1922. The organisers kicked us out. (that is why our
names do not appear in the list of entries).

Me and Nimzo went to the beach built sand castles.

Nimzo noticed that the castles that stood together lasted longer
against the incoming tide than the castle that were isolated.
This gave him the idea for his theory on 'isolated pawns' in My System.
The sand we used is still there!

My Queen's worth:

On the board = about 9 pawns

Off the board = 0

An extra one hidden in my shirt pocket and as soon as my opponent walks away from the board I'm going to drop it on f3 = Priceless

I heard the reason he's into "overprotection" was something you gave him.

Besides the cost of the board, the queen would cost more, as it is usually larger then the rest of the pieces.

How much is the queen worth? Well, my queen is worth 10 points. Exactly 10, no more, no less.

Here's a photo of my queen:

I counted the points on the queen's crown, and there are exactly 10 of them. 😛
