As white, i've been here, and what he's trying to do never worked out well for me. the plan is to unpin the knight by getting the queen to e3. that takes at least one move too long.

If the queen takes the bishop, I'll play Nd4 attacking the queen.
      • 11. Qe3xf3 Nc6d4 12. Qf3d1
and the queen goes home. That's 3 wasted moves. for white.

this was a silly move by me. I suspect I thought the bishop on a4 was hung. GP would say that I need to have a good think.

still not quite sure where I'm going with this. Moving all these pawns this early seems imprudent. I'm lucky I was ahead in development. (And I do mean WAS)

              discovers on the queen.
              • 18... Qa5d8
moves it back to where it started.
                • 19. Nd5xe7
not too keen on this move by white, it forces my queen onto an open file, reconnects my rooks and puts my queen and d4 knight in unison.
                  • 19... Qd8xe7 20. dxc4
saves the bishop, but this allows for some play which makes white quite unconfortable.
                    • 20... Nd4e2 21. Kg1h1 Nf6g4
white can't take the g4 knight because then qh4 is checkmate. I pondered this move for a long time. I'm not sure what white's best response is here. pushing or capturing with the c pawn would pin my f pawn and activate his bishop.
