When forced to play as white I usually stick to e4...It sometimes lulls the opponent into thinking they know what's coming.
1... e5
Black responds likewise...
2. Ng1f3
I prefer the Giuoco Piano over the Spanish so that is the short term goal.
2... d6
Black seeks to develop bishop, possibly spotting a tasty looking pin and hoping for a quick take-down.
3. Bf1c4
I ignore the developing threat and finalize my basic opening. D5 is now apparently under white's control but black has set his sights on larger quarry.
3... Bc8g4
A good move?
4. O-O
Pro-offered attack ignored by white in favor of strengthening defense...
4... Bg4xf3
I've got to admit I was surprised black actually went through with it with no backup. Most of the time they are just bluffing. I love a good sacrifice, especially when it strengthens positioning.
5. Qd1xf3
Obvious response...it would have been suicide to g5x instead. (who would want an open channel for an angry queen to their king?)
