Okay...umm....Balalaika here, and I would like to try to annotate this game. I don't think I'm qualified to annotate anything, but people say that annotating a game is good practice to improve in chess. I hope you don't mind this, Des, Bosch. ^_^
1. d4
Queen's Pawn opening. White claims stake to the center, and this move can evolve into other positions, such as King's Indian Defence.
1... d5
Bosch responded symmetrically, leading to a Double Queen Pawn Opening.
2. Nb1c3 Nb8c6
A slightly better move would be Ng8f6.
3. e3
Preparing for the eventual f4, as well as reinforcing the d4 pawn.
3... Ng8f6 4. Ng1f3 Bc8g4
Pinning the knight at f3. I seldom use this move anymore, since a simple h3 can force the bishop to run away. If 5.h3 then 5b.Bg4xf3 6.Qd1xf3 (to prevent doubled pawns) and White gains a bishop for a knight.
5. Bf1b5
!? White responded by symmetrically pinning Black's knight on C6. This is an absolute pin, and therefore, stronger, since moving the knight away is illegal. Black can try chasing the bishop away by moving 5b.e6. If for some reason White followed by 6.Bb5xc6, then Black had to move 6b.bxc6 and got a doubled pawns formation, which is in some situation, a weak position.
5... e6 6. Qd1d3
? Developing the queen prematurely.
6... Bf8b4
A slightly better move would be Bg4f5, threatening the Queen and the c2 pawn. Followed by Nc6b4, which aim to attack the c2 pawn by the knight, threatening a possible King/Rook fork.
