  • 1. e4 c5 2. c3
The c3 or Alapin Sicilian Can defer this 2.c3 to 3.c3 and instead first do 2.Nf3. Usually doesn't matter. Either way.
    • 2... d6
Bad move. Some black players mistakenly stick to their known Sicilian but 2.c3 denies the typical open Sicilian variations.
      • 3. d4
        I love this move here
        • 3... cxd4
          Ouch for him
          • 4. cxd4
Unlike typical open Sicilian, White retains both center pawns, and also has the open c-file to challenge the black open c-file. Of course, black has not played this correctly.
            • 4... Ng8f6 5. Nb1c3 a6
I guess he still thinking Najdorf.
              • 6. Ng1f3
Continuing to try to control the board. I always go for the boring ancient style of dominate the center right away.
                • 6... e6
I don't think the closed game works here. Blocks his white-squared bishop. Plus, more importantly, I think he has to challenge the center earlier.
                  • 7. Bf1d3
                    Be2 was an option
                    • 7... Bf8e7 8. O-O O-O 9. Qd1e2
Maybe a premature Q move. Playing by feel here. Way out of book because of him.
