Annotated Games
1. e4 c5 2. Ng1f3 Nb8c6 3. b3
I've had a few games playing an early b3 with dividends, particularly vs. the Sicilian... this one turns out to be a fine example
3... e5
Anticipating the fianchetto and so looking to immediately close off the diagonal
4. Bc1b2 d6 5. Bf1c4
But now the light squares are weak
5... h6 6. Nb1c3 Ng8f6 7. h3 Nc6d4
And here's the position where I came up with a pawn sacrifice (ok it could be theory, I must ask Greenpawn)
8. Nc3d5
Leaving e4 hanging, but Black should ignore for now and continue development with Be7 looking to castle
8... Nf6xe4
? By taking, White gets a positional advantage by force
9. Nf3xd4 cxd4 10. Qd1e2
Protecting the Knight only drops material, so Knight falls back
10... Ne4c5
Now e5 is pinned to the King, so d4 falls
11. Bb2xd4 Nc5e6 12. Bd4b2
And the long term idea is to take advantage of Black's lack of development and backward pawn structure
12... b6 13. O-O-O Bc8d7
Black probably realised that Bb7 would have led to Bb5+ losing the Queen!
