Annotated Games
1. Ng1f3
Yes I open with this EVERY game. I'm hoping for d5 when I always get a good game after I reply c4.
1... Nb8c6 2. g3 b6 3. Bf1g2 Bc8b7 4. O-O d5
Finally!
5. c4
? Probably unsound here but I'm looking to get my opponent into unfamiliar territory even if it does cost me a pawn.
5... dxc4 6. Nb1a3 Ng8f6 7. Na3xc4
Now the game has transposed into a variation of what an old copy of Modern Chess Openings described as the "Alfred Wolffe Gambit" (from Reti)
7... Nc6d4
Presumably black was frightened of me uncovering my bishop first and/or wants to disrupt my pawns?
8. Nc4e5 Nd4xf3 9. exf3
? Nxf3 is just too bland. I often play exf3, it opens a file for my rook, prevents black's knight advancing and a timely f4 will hold the centre.
9... e6 10. Qd1a4
! Not just a cheap check but the start of tying black up in knots.
10... Nf6d7 11. Ne5c6 Bb7xc6 12. Qa4xc6 Bf8c5 13. d4 Bc5d6
If Bxd4 then Bf4, Rc1, Rd1 pile on the pressure
14. d5 e5 15. Bg2h3 Ke8e7 16. Rf1e1 Nd7c5
The horse breaks free - can it do any damage?
17. f4 Nc5d3 18. fxe5
!? Once I'm attacking I haven't got the patience to defend!
