    I think times have changed since you and I were first introduced to chess.
    Children now are technology inspired and I think if you sit down with a group of youngsters with a board and try to explain the game they will quickly become bored.
    Perhaps finding a suitable programme on the net and showing them on a big screen would be a better way to hold their attention.
    Nevertheless full marks for trying.
    Roma45 , a player on here has some experience with junior chess players.
    I'm sure he'd be able and willing to give you some pointers.

    I think it's the other way round regarding time limits.
    A human can play instinctively,a computer cannot.
    I think how a computer works is it has to "try" every possible option and select one before it moves (unless it has access to a database which tells it to ignore some responses(eg if I move e4 it needs to "look at" a3 before rejecting it).
    Set a time limit of say 10 seconds per move and the human should have an advantage because a computer can only "try" so many responses before having to move

    Currently distracted by an ongoing rewrite of core RHP code, which supports variants. This will not be released for quite sometime - and even tested in isolation away from RHP initially.

    Any favorite you would specifically want added?

    Shogi is the best variant I have played but probably too time consuming to programme for the number of people who would want to try it

    3 day 7 day makes for very long games. I would like to see the default set at 1 and 3 day or 1 day and 0 bank.

    Most people challenge me with default settings and I do not want to need to trash all such games.
    Could you not just change the time frame to one you prefer and send the challenge back or pm the challenger requesting a different time frame, or even send your own open invite to the challenger?
    Maybe a lot of new players don't realise the time frame is changeable so a more practical suggestion would be no default and allow challengers to select their preferred one from a list.

    Click on a tournament and look at the group size.
    If it's 8 for example you will get 14 games whereas if its only 2 you'll just get 2 games.
    Simple formula: group size -1 *2.
    The group size will only vary when there's an odd number in the round, such as if an uneven number of players go into the next round as a result of draws
