Mladen Muše is a Croatian chess International Master (IM) and chess trainer. He was born on 14 April 1948 in Split, Croatia. As an active player, he accomplished several notable achievements. During the period from 1968 to 1980, he won the Croatian Chess Championship five times. He also won the championship of the University of Zadar twice. He became an International Master in 1975.


Muše achieved a lot of success as a coach as well. He trained Robert Zelčić, Hrvoje Stević, and Saša Martinović, who were all very successful chess players. In 2016, he received the prestigious title of FIDE Senior Trainer, one of the highest recognitions for chess trainers globally.


Throughout his career, Muše published numerous chess publications. He is known for his book, "100 partija", consisting of one hundred games he played personally. He has also written many chess columns in Croatian newspapers.


He has been the President of the "Chess Home" Association since 1987. The association promotes chess training, particularly in schools. It also organizes extracurricular activities and chess competitions. Another significant role he's held is that of the Executive Director of the Chess Club "Zagreb". Muše left a significant impact on the Club's development during his time as director.


Muše also brought about a unique practice in world chess through "Zagreb's Chess Fairy Tale". The practice involves utilizing mini chess and didactic material to improve the teaching process for children starting chess.


Later in life, Muše ventured into politics. In the 2007 parliamentary elections in Croatia, he was a representative candidate on the list of the Croatian Party of Rights.


Mladen Muše greatly contributed to the development of chess in Croatia through his player career, coaching, written works, and organizational roles. His methods in chess training have made a significant impact in the teaching world and have been recognized at a global level.
