I learned chess from a friend when I was 19 years old...lost probably over 100 games to him before I won my 1st game. Then lost fewer as we began to play. One day another friend of mine gave me a book named "The Art of Chess" an old book..it taught me the endgame first, middle game play.. then the openings in that order. That was my Aha moment...I was amazed with how intricate an beautiful the game was.Stopped playing during studies of engineering at university. Resumed play after. Probably studied over 30 books since. My best books were "The Inner Game of Chess & Art of Defence by Soltis.I first learnt about the "Tree of Analysis" with "Think like Grandmaster" by Alexander Kotov. Also good books are "Positional Play" by Yusopov & Shirov's "Fire on Board". My best puzzle book is "Chess Middlegames "by Judith Polgar's Dad, a gift from my wife. One thing I always try to remember in chess is not how many moves ahead I can see...but having the ability to evaluate the +/- of the position in the different lines of play! I work very hard at piece coordination and sequence of moves.Weakness: I still struggle with choosing the right candidate moves.
I like Capablanca's simplistic/positional style, yep went through his best 100 games... and found a book recently with his best 60 endgames. Played over the board for years and wanted to try slower online games-Was introduced to RHP..been loving it ever since.......
