Chess Terms : Advanced Pawn Explained
An advanced pawn is a pawn that has crossed into the opponent's half of the board—the fifth rank or beyond for White, or the fourth rank or below for Black. An advanced pawn can restrict the opponent's pieces, control key squares in enemy territory, and pose a promotion threat. The further a pawn advances, the more powerful it becomes, often forcing the opponent to divert resources to prevent queening. Advanced pawns are particularly significant in the endgame.
