Chess Terms : Alekhine's Gun Explained
Alekhine's Gun is a powerful formation in which two rooks and a queen are aligned on the same file, with the queen placed behind the rooks. Named after World Champion Alexander Alekhine (1892–1946), who demonstrated the formation in his famous game against Aron Nimzowitsch at San Remo 1930, the arrangement concentrates enormous pressure on the target file. The queen is placed at the rear so that it is not exposed to attack while the rooks bear the brunt of any exchanges. Two rooks stacked one behind the other with the queen behind them on the same file.
