Chess Terms : Back-Rank Weakness Explained
A Back-Rank Weakness in chess refers to a situation where a player's back rank (the row of squares on which the player's pieces start at the beginning of the game) is inadequately defended. This usually renders the king vulnerable to checkmate, typically happening when the king is trapped behind its own pawns and unable to escape a check from an opponent's rook or queen.
