Chess Terms : Battery Explained

Battery

A battery is an arrangement of two or more pieces of the same colour on the same rank, file, or diagonal, where they combine their power along that line. The most common batteries involve a queen and bishop on a diagonal, or a queen and rook (or two rooks) on a file. Alekhine's Gun—two rooks and a queen on the same file—is the most powerful battery. A battery can create devastating discovered attacks and discovered checks.
