Breakthrough

A breakthrough is a decisive penetration of the opponent's position, often achieved through a pawn advance, a sacrifice, or a combination of tactical blows. A breakthrough differs from a simple break in that it typically results in a winning advantage—such as a passed pawn racing to promotion or a fatal attack on the king.
