Chess Terms : Caissa Explained

Caissa

Caissa is a mythical goddess of chess, often depicted as a character in poetry and fiction. The term is taken from a poem written by Italian poet Marco Girolamo Vida in 1527, but its modern usage is mainly attributed to a 1763 poem by Englishman Sir William Jones. The goddess Caissa is often invoked or referenced in many contexts in relation to the game of chess.
