Chess Terms : Capture Explained

Capture

A capture is a move in which a piece or pawn takes an opponent's piece or pawn, removing it from the board and occupying its square. In algebraic notation, captures are indicated by the symbol "x" (e.g. Bxe5). En passant is a special pawn capture. Captures are fundamental to chess tactics and are the primary means of gaining material.
