Chess Terms : Control Of The Center Explained
Control of the centre is the strategic objective of dominating the four central squares (d4, d5, e4, e5) and the expanded centre. Central control provides greater piece mobility, better coordination, and the ability to launch attacks on either flank. It can be achieved by pawn occupation (classical) or piece pressure (hypermodern). Control of the centre is one of the most fundamental principles of chess strategy.
