Chess Terms : Doubled Pawns Explained
Doubled pawns are two pawns of the same colour on the same file, resulting from a capture. Doubled pawns are generally considered a weakness because they cannot protect each other and the front pawn blocks the rear pawn's advance. However, doubled pawns can also provide benefits—such as opening a file for a rook or controlling additional squares.
