Chess Terms : Epaulette Mate Explained
The epaulette mate is a checkmate pattern in which the king is trapped on the edge of the board by its own pieces on either side (like epaulettes on a uniform), while the queen or other piece delivers checkmate from in front. The king's "epaulettes" (typically two rooks or other pieces on adjacent squares) block its lateral escape.
