Chess Terms : Kibitz Explained

Kibitz

Kibitz refers to the act of commenting on a chess game while it is in progress, typically conducted by spectators or those not actively participating in the game. The comments or suggestions may be about possible strategies, moves or mistakes made by the players. This term is generally used in informal settings and kibitzing during formal games or tournaments is often considered improper. It is derived from the Yiddish word, 'kibbitzen', meaning to offer advice or commentary.
