Notation

Notation in chess refers to the method used to record and describe the moves in a game of chess. It allows for either casual or professional recording of the game sequence, and the replaying and analysis of a specific game. Different chess notations have been used over time, but the most commonly used one today is algebraic notation, which identifies each square from a1 to h8 and each piece by a letter (K for king, Q for queen, R for rook, B for bishop, N for knight, or no letter for pawn).
