Chess Terms : Outside Passed Pawn Explained

Outside Passed Pawn

An Outside Passed Pawn in chess refers to a passed pawn that is separate from the rest of the pawns, usually on the side or outside of the board. This pawn typically forces the opponent to divert resources or pieces to block or capture it, thereby giving strategic advantage to the player with the outside passed pawn. A passed pawn is a pawn with no opposing pawns to prevent it from advancing to the eighth rank, i.e. there are no opposing pawns in front of it on either the same file or an adjacent one.
