Sham Sacrifice

A Sham Sacrifice in chess refers to a tactical move where a player seemingly offers a piece to their opponent with the intent of gaining an advantage, but the offer of the piece is illusory as accepting the sacrifice would lead to a position that is detrimental to the player. It may appear to be an actual sacrifice initially, but the opponent cannot accept without suffering negative consequences. Essentially, it is a strategic bait that is intended to trick the opposing player into a disadvantageous position.
