Chess Terms : Zwischenzug Explained
Zwischenzug (German: "intermediate move," also called an intermezzo) is an unexpected move inserted into an apparently forced sequence—typically before a recapture or other "obvious" reply. The zwischenzug forces the opponent to respond, creating a more favourable situation for the player. Zwischenzugs are one of the most common and powerful tactical devices in chess.
