To answer this is to give you assistance during an ongoing game - not
exactly fair to your opponent. If RHP does not indicate checkmate
then you are not in checkmate.

no i don't want assistance in my move but : is there no way that the
RHP may have this one bug. me, my opponent and other friends are
in a huge debate about this one... i am in check, but can move
nowhere. so it seems like checkmate. but his pawn (the piece putting
me in check) is not allowed to capture my king (as i understand the
rule)... so i cannot move anywhere, but if i stay, the pawn cannot take
me !! feels like a deadlock to me.. RHP doesn't allow my king to
move anywhere, or take his pawn, so i cannot move (that sounds like
checkmate), but RHP doesn't report a checkmate, so i must move... i
am going in circles, but if you check out the board (gameID=82807)
you will see what i mean.. or maybe we just don't know about a rule in
    this case..?

Ok, against my better judgement but since you seem to have talked
    to your opponent about this.

Please check out the Rules of Chess link on this web site
    http://www.redhotpawn.com/static/rules/moves.php
and review the pawn moves, specifically en passant.

Your legal move is - f4xg4 and your pawn ends up on g3.

    There is no bug.

I looked at the game. It could help if your opponent posts the same
question. Then I feel we could help you without being unethical.

ah !!! we are all clear now !! i knew the en-passant rule, but didn't see
it availible to me... i think its just fair for me to hand the game over
    to my friend...

thanks for all who replied in our cry for help !!

In a case like this where you only have 1 move to make, I dont feel
that its unethical to tell you what needs to be done. You are forced to
make a move as you are in check, but it does not have to be the King
that moves. Look beyond the king moves and see what else there is
concerning chess rules. I dislike giving advice during ongoing games,
but its not like you have a lot of money riding on this game, nor does
anyone else for that matter. To some.. ratings are important..I guess
its an ego thing. I would rather see you learn all the rules of chess
and get better with each game played. Paul

En-passent creates so many bogus bug reports, you would never believe it! 🙂

But please let me know if you do suspect there is a problem - it is better to disprove it than to let a potential problem ruin peoples enjoyment of the site.
